Site Characterization - Railroad Facility
Site
characterization was completed at a former paint shop at a
railyard facility located in an area of karst geology. Property
has been a railyard since 1909. The paint shop was one of the
original buildings at the site and historical activity included
repair, stripping, and painting of rail cars. Previous
investigations identified limited metals impacts to soil from
historical operations.
Characterization activities were conducted
in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources
(MDNR) Voluntary Cleanup Program. Primary constituents of concern
included VOCs and metals.
Numerous soil borings were advanced
at the site around and through the concrete building foundation
and an existing monitoring well was sampled.
Analytical results
indicated that VOCs were not a concern at this site, and identified
chromium and lead as the primary metals of concern. Additional
characterization and risk assessment activities are anticipated
to allow the development of appropriate remedial options. |
