EWI Services – Petroleum Storage Tank Work

For over 10 years EWI has assisted clients with managing petroleum release sites.  From the release notification to “No Further Action” status, EWI professionals help responsible parties to comply with Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) regulations and gain reimbursement through Missouri’s Petroleum Storage Tank Insurance Fund (PSTIF) – whenever eligible.

EWI is currently working at over 80 active petroleum release sites in Missouri and have successfully closed many others.  Our staff maintains close contact and good standing with both MDNR and PSTIF personnel, so that our work is performed to the latest requirements.  EWI’s President is presiding chair of PSTIF’s advisory board, so EWI is prepared for most changes before they arrive.

Our primary services in this field include:

Emergency response
Release delineation (site characterization)

Case Study:
Underground Storage Tank Closure / Removal

A major electronics manufacturing facility required closure of two 20,000-gallon and four 37,500-gallon heating oil underground storage tanks (USTs). EWI conducted the project as a turnkey operation for the facility.

Fuel remaining in the USTs was sold, providing a cost offset to the client. Impacted soils and water were encountered during UST removal. Approximately 3,000 tons of soil and 73,000 gallons of water were removed for proper offsite disposal.

Upon completion of remedial actions, a report was submitted to MDNR  and closure was subsequently granted for the USTs.  EWI later managed the installation of a 30,000-gallon double walled fiberglass UST at the same facility.
